My boss just called the office about 30 minutes after she left, sounding confused. After I answered, she told me that she had meant to call her husband.
I hung up and remarked, "I guess she's married to her work."
I then proceeded to give a hearty, cornball laugh at my own lame joke, but I don't think my co-worker was having any of it.
At least you were talking to someone else instead of just saying for your own benefit. I'm not saying I've never done it but it's better when people are around.
